Alternative Playlist
Are you in your rebellious era? Your trailblazer, main character, screw-the-rules story arc?
Channel your inner renegade with these epic alternative jams. At Mullinax Automotive, we love to push the boundaries – and so do the artists on this playlist. Your drive to the grocery store just became a lot more revolutionary.
Whether you’re in the mood for alternative rock, alternative pop, or some low-key indie jams, we’ve got you covered. Put on a chain necklace and eyeliner, ponder the death of Kurt Cobain, and daydream about Ophelia with us as you listen. A little rebel never hurt anybody.
Do I Wanna Know? – The Arctic Monkeys
The only thing we wanna know is what alternative rock magic Jamie Cook infused into the lead guitar line to make it so. Freaking. Addicting.
I Will Wait – Mumford & Sons
How old were you when you realized Mumford & Sons is not a band made up of a father and his sons? Or were we the only ones confused? Well, we’re willing to forgive the band for its misleading name only because it’s impossible to be in a bad mood while listening to this guitar-strummin,’ mandolin-slammin,’ banjo-infused masterpiece.
Ho Hey – The Lumineers
“I don’t know where I went wrong/ But I can write a song.” At least we know that last line is true. We could be driving down the highway in the middle of rush hour and this song would transport us straight to a smoky campfire sing-along.
Little Talks – Of Monsters and Men
Yes, this is the second song in a row on this playlist that opens with a group of British men yelling “Hey!” We promise you’ll forgive us for repetitiveness when you hear the irresistible beat in this chorus.
The Pretender – The Foo Fighters
All right, forget banjos and the British. Now we’re entering the ‘90s Seattle alt-rock scene. Growing a Dave Grohl-style beard is encouraged but not required to appreciate this song fully.
Seven Nation Army – The White Stripes
You know the riff. We know the riff. Everyone knows the riff. Start tapping along on the steering wheel. It’s time to jam out.
Sail – AWOLNATION
The Walking Dead used this inescapable alt-rock classic in an episode one time … so basically, listening to it gives you the power to fight zombies. We don’t make the rules. Maybe we’re a different breed.
Dark Necessities – Red Hot Chili Peppers
Rolling Stone called this Chili Pepper banger “full of blood, sugar, sex and magic.” Who are we to argue with the Stone?
Ophelia – The Lumineers
So maybe we weren’t completely done with banjos and British men. Be right back, legally changing our name to “Ophelia” so we can pretend Wesley Schultz is serenading us and only us.
Sweater Weather – The Neighborhood
This song may not be totally relatable for Floridians in July. Or August. Or any time of year. Whatever. Crank the AC, put on those little high-waisted shorts, and let the Neighborhood croon you away.
Bad Guy – Billie Eilish
Funky. Mysterious. Billie told Rolling Stone that the iconic riff from Bad Guy was inspired by the Wizards of Waverly Place soundtrack. Does that mean listening to the song is like listening to a Billie-Selena Gomez collab song? We’d like to think so.
