At the heart of the Volt are two electric motors that power the front wheels. They combine to make 149 horsepower, sending power to the wheels through a continuously variable transmission (CVT). In addition, the Volt also has a 1.5L 4-cylinder gasoline engine making 101 horsepower. The Driver Confidence Package looks out behind the Volt, with a rear cross traffic alert system and a blind spot warning and lane change warning system. The Driver Confidence II Package adds to the Driver Confidence package with a forward collision alert system, a lane keep assist system, low speed automatic braking, adaptive cruise control, and intelligent headlights.

All versions of the Volt come with traction control, stability control, anti-lock brakes, a rearview camera and OnStar's various suite of diagnostic and assistance programs.
