The 2019 Volkswagen Passat is offered in two trim levels; Wolfsburg Edition and SE R-Line. The only engine option is a turbocharged 2.0L TSI (2.0T) 4-cylinder engine makes 174 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque, while providing an EPA estimated 36 mpg on the highway and 25 mpg in the city. Power is sent to the front wheels via a 6-speed automatic transmission.
The Passat base trim is now known as the Wolfsburg Edition, replacing the outgoing S trim. The Wolfsburg Edition comes standard with a 6.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system featuring App-connect and SiriusXM satellite radio. The new infotainment system is borrowed from last year's R-Line trim and represents a pretty big step up from what was previously available on the base model. The Wolfsburg trim also comes standard with 17-inch wheels, keyless entry and push button start, leatherette seating surfaces, a leather wrapped steering wheel, heated front seats and heated side mirrors. The Wolfsburg Edition is also available with a wheel and roof package which gives the Passat a more aggressive look with 18-inch wheels and a sunroof.
The SE R-Line trim, looks even more aggressive with standard LED headlights, LED daytime running lights and 19-inch wheels. Other standard features on the SE R-Line trim include an upgraded media entertainment system with standard navigation, nicer ambient lighting, an easy open trunk, adaptive cruise control, a lane keep assist system, park distance control and a Fender premium audio system.
All Passat models include six standard airbags, including side-curtain airbags that cover front and rear occupants, plus standard electronic stability control, anti-lock brakes and hydraulic brake assist. Available advanced safety technologies include a lane departure warning, frontal collision warning with emergency braking and a blind-spot monitor.

Volkswagen have consolidated their Passat line for 2019; gone are the six different trim levels leaving only two available trim packages. This simplified lineup gives buyers considerably more value for their money as the base level Passat comes generously equipped, and drops the Premium trim means that the most expensive Passat is now less so.
The Passat continues to be well-known in the mid-size sedan market, fully competitive in price and features with other high-value mid-size models such as the Honda Accord, Hyundai Sonata and Kia Optima. The addition of the GT trim gives a sportier look and feel to the Passat, making it more appealing to many buyers. The Passat is also a clear leader in the interior comfort, with ample amounts of legroom and trunk space.
